Today, at work, I had the need to install Excel 2007 so as to produce .XLSX files (new excel 2007 format) which were required by Microsoft in order to update some internal information… and as Microsoft was NO LONGER accepting Excel 2003 version!
Now only to perform this one task, I had to installed Excel 2007! As I’ve previously used it, and not being very favourable to the whole ribbon bars… I decided to have both Excel 2003 and 2007 on the system.
After installing Excel 2007, everytime I’d click on any Excel file, but obviously opened up with 2007!
I didn’t want that… I wanted to only use 2007 when I exclusively opened Excel 2007, not when I double-click ANY excel file.
I looked around everywhere online to find an answer to the problem: If you have Excel 2003 & 2007 both installed, how can you make 2003 as the default application?
No decent answer!
After a while of few frustrated attempts this is what I did:
I went to Add/Remove Programs, clicked on Microsoft Office 2003 and chose to “REPAIR” it!
And voila! It made 2003 back as default!
So there you go – anyone who’s been struggling with the same, here’s your answer :)
