I’m not much of a fan of any startup sounds in OS’s so usually when I install an OS, I disable all sounds.
However, since the installation of Vista, I kinda grew accustomed to the new sounds it had, so I never bothered to switch em off.
The other day I came across an excellent short audio clip which I thought would do just great as a startup sound for my machine. So I clicked into the sound settings and to my surprise – there’s no way to change Windows Vista’s startup sound!!! Yes you can disable it, but you cannot change it!
Apparently Microsoft spend a lot of effort on the sounds before the release of Vista, to ensure the sounds in the new operating system are far superior to all it’s previous descendants.

While you are at it, you may wanna check out this funny video about a Powerbook startup sound in a college library :)
I watched “The Covenant” last night after quite a few days of putting it off… I must say I was relatively impressed.
